The Player of the Month awards are given to those players who show the most improvement each month. They take home the BCYFC silver trophy which they keep proudly on the kitchen table for all to see. The honours board is below.
The March 2009 Players of the Month are Tom Stacey and Max Lewis
This month we celebrate the rocks upon which any wonder team is built: great defenders.
Being a Spurs fan, Tom has has to watch other teams to understand the dark defensive arts. Tom is an extremely versatile player with just a touch of the Hod about him, as demonstrated by his goal from half way against Wells, but what makes his play stand out is his reading of the game, his acute sense of anticipation (much like Glenda), his ability to predict what forwards will do (unlike Glenda). Well done Tom, it won't be long before we see you leading the defensive line with your arm raised for offside much like that other paragon from North London, Big Tony A.
What a great player Max has become! We should start calling him "The Fox" for his tenacity rather like a young Ossie Ardilles (it must be Spurs month!) quietly robbing people of the ball and distributing it to his team mates. What Max has done so brilliantly in the last few months is play his position so well that the rest of the team can be built around him. It's a great lesson for all our players and shows enormous maturity. Well done Max, you're a real asset to every team you play in and we look forward to your continued development with great excitement!
The February 2010 Players of the Month are Finn Forster and Joey Searle Mallon
"You learn the rules of the game. And then you have to play better than anyone else" (Albert Einstein)
The end of a long winter and coming of spring shows BCYFC rewarding two players starting to flower on the back of months of huge effort in learning their ball mastery skills and vast determination. Last found chewing on the bones of unsuspecting Frome forwards, no players grit their teeth like these two.
Johnny Giles, Steve McMahon, Roy Keane, every good team needs them, the guys who run 14 miles a game, the scarred pit-bulls who collect collisions like a war hero aquires campaign medals. However, on top of their huge hearts and fierce resolve, what has made the big difference to them both this year is that thay have worked hard on their individual techniques and above all shown an appreciation for team dynamics. In recent games they have been pivotal to the way the side has played, like Johnny, Steve and Roy they have won and then distributed the ball allowing the team to play around them.
Congratulations to you both. Continue to do what you're doing. You inspire us all!
The January 2010 Players of the Month are Nicholas Moar and Joshua Doell
Nick is one of our great stalwarts. He is the Darren Fletcher of our squad, extraordinarily committed, extremely versatile, the ever-thumping heart-beat of every team he plays in, doing whatever it takes in the best interests of his side. His developing ball mastery skills have given him new confidence on the pitch and with his colleagues. In a recent game against Chew, he was the first to grab the keeper's gloves in our hour of need. He then played outstandingly, shoring up a somewhat leaky defence, his unique Schmeichel-esque vocal skills being put to excellent use. Well done Nick. Your award is richly deserved.
Josh is fast-becoming an outstanding young footballer. If Nick is Darren Fletcher, Josh is our Paul Scholes, sitting behind the strikers, beating people with ease and finding passes that others just don't see (and he definitely tackles better than Scholsey!). Josh has been the lubricating oil in our A team's engine all season, linking defence and attack and recently scoring a couple too. As a founding member of BCYFC's University of Silky Skills, Josh is now reaping the rewards of his diligent efforts during training. Many congratulations Josh, we look forward to your continued development with great excitement!
The November 2009 Players of the Month are Xander Snow and Gabriel Tann
Although he has only been with us since the start of the season, Xander richly deserves this award as with his blend of hard work and intelligence, he is fast-becoming BCYFC's own Dennis Berkgamp. The improvement Xander has shown from when he arrived at training at the start of the season is just fantatic. He is thoroughly committed during training and his ball control skills now reflect this. On top of this he shows an inate awareness of space and the movement of players (just like Dennis). He has now started to put in some great dispays in games and we look forward to his continued development with considerable excitement.
Uitstekend Xander (as they say at Ajax)
Now if Xander is Dennis Bergkamp, Gabriel is our own Frank Rijkard (but without the tendancy to expectorate). Gabriel has been the defensive/midfield rock of the team for a couple of years always being an example of strength and determination. This year he has worked hard on his ball mastery skills which have given him another dimension to his play. He has put in some great performances this year, most recently in the first game at the Cardiff City Academy tournament where he caught the eye of the odd welsh coach (BCYFC's manager was happy to put them straight).
Goed gedaan Gabriel (as they also have been known to shout at Ajax). Goed bezig!
The October 2009 Players of the Month are Angus Govier and Alfie Prescott
Angus has shown huge commitment over the last year. He always comes to training and he always tries incredibly hard. Over the last two months he seems to have flourished playing his first games for the club and showing a new-found proficiency in the ball mastery skills. At the same time he has grown physically and his confidence has increased likewise. Angus is now playing intelligent two-footed football and we look forward to his continued progress.
Well done Angus! A well-deserved reward for your considerable efforts!
Alfie has always been one of our star players. He has nurtured his own considerable talents through lots and lots of practice and his new-found nickname of "Johan" says much. His contributions to training have always been heroic with his commitment and ebullience being contagious. His cheeky grin and rapid-fire comments keep us all on our toes and have often spoiled the concentration of the odd hapless defender. However, Alfie has won this award for something which initially he wrestled with: learning to be a cog within a team and above all for passing. As a resut both his own and the team's performance have improved beyond measure.
Well done Alfie! You are learning the art of beautiful football!
The September 2009 Player of the Month is Harry Milson Kelsey.
Harry is a model of attentive commitment at all training sessions and always has been. He has also embraced the focus on ball mastery skills with relish. He clearly practices these skills hard and can do countless keepy-uppies already. This is paying off and in the recent match against Frome Town scored the only goal after turning their right back inside out with a Cruyff turn before coming inside and scoring the winner with a firm shot into the bottom corner of the net.
Well done Harry!
